Class Procedures
Learning a new routine each September can be confusing for both students and parents. Here are a few things to help clarify procedures and remind you to make the transition to fourth grade easier!
Folders and Agendas
Students are responsible for folders and agendas. The agendas are used for copying homework assignments, but are also used as a students' "pass" to the nurses office, so it is important that students have them each day.
Students should:
*copy homework into agenda each morning and take agenda home daily;
*bring agenda back to school each morning;
*bring hw folder to school each day, and bring home each night;
*bring gold folders home on Fridays, and return on Mondays.
Gold folders are mainly for parents, and will be sent home each Friday. They usually contain graded student work, test scores, a parent letter from me (unless you signed up for the PDF version!), and various papers from the office. Please look through over the weekend, and send the folder back empty on Monday.

Class Behavior
All students have their own clothespin on our class "clip chart", which ranges in color. All students begin each day on green, and after verbal warnings about behavior, can progress to other levels throughout the day. However, if they have shown good behavior or extra effort, they can progress up the chart to "Star Student". When students end the day on "Star Student" five times, they earn a certificate of their choice (for things like computer time, or to be a teacher helper). If they earn "Star Student" ten times, they retire their clip to the "Hall of Fame" and will start over with a new clip with their name written in a different color (to signify their progression). The certificates will continue for every fifth time they end the day on "Star Student".
Green Team
Each Friday is Green Team! For those students who have remained on green (or higher!) each day of the week, they are allowed to sign up for one of 3 fun choices. Goody Box is always a choice, and other choices have included homework pass, computer time, partner time (to play with a friend), sit with a friend at lunch, bookmarks or pencils. I will also occasionally post slots for students to help me in the classroom...those always go fast!

Lockers
Students have a locker assigned to them for the year. Students do not have locker combinations, so they do not have access to their locker throughout the day unless they have asked permission to get something out of it. Students are expected to unpack in the classroom in the morning, then put their backpack in their locker. In the afternoon, their locker will be opened for them and they will be allowed to retrieve their backpack to pack for dismissal.
Birthday Celebrations
Students are welcome to bring in cupcakes or other snack for the class to celebrate their birthdays. Please give me at least a days notice so we can check on any allergies. The time for celebrations is easiest at lunch.
