Homework Policy
Students typically will have homework every day except for Friday. Homework will start out fairly easy at the beginning of the year, and gradually get harder and a bit longer.
Math: Math homework will be given daily Monday through Thursday. Unless noted otherwise, it will be due the next day.
Reading: Students will receive reading homework on Mondays and Wednesdays. Those assignments will be due Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
Social Studies: Typically, Social Studies homework will only be assigned occasionally. Towards the spring, SOL Review homework will start coming home more often to help prepare students for the SOL test.
Homework Accountability:
Grades: Homework is graded for completion, not for accuracy. Students must return homework on time in order to earn a 100% on that assignment. Students will lose 10 points for each day the assignment is late, and it will not be accepted after the fifth day. **This is a new school-wide policy!**
If a student has not turned in an assignment on time and they need another copy, they may check the "Homework Files" to find the worksheet they are missing. The "Homework Files" have been set up so students may check whether they are missing any assignments and then be able to find that assignment sheet independently. Students will be trained on how the "Homework Files" system works at the beginning of the year, and then they are welcome to use it when necessary.
Homework Club:
Homework Club will keep track of students who have completed their homework on time every day. When a student does not turn in an assignment on time, they are removed from the Club. Students who are able to remain in the club for the whole month will be able to eat lunch in the classroom with me. Homework Club will then be reset for the next month and all students will begin the month in the Club again. Students who are able to stay in the Club for the entire school year will earn a pizza party lunch in the classroom.
